Captain Angela Istvanditsch began her law enforcement career in 1998 after serving in the United States Air Force as a Security Police Criminal Investigator. She is a veteran of the United States Air Force and the Tennessee Army National Guard. She has served globally in many different regions and campaigns. She is a graduate of the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy, the New Jersey Public Safety Training Academy, and the New Jersey Department of Corrections Academy.
Captain Istvanditsch has worked in law enforcement at the municipal, county, state and federal levels. She has served in many different law enforcement positions including supervision, patrol, criminal investigations, crime scene investigations, hostage negotiations, corrections, as a field training officer, and as a school resource officer. She has also had the honor of instructing several different in-service courses, and being a guest instructor for the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security.
She has a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a forensic concentration and in Intelligence Studies. She is a graduate of the FBI LEEDA Trilogy, and has completed the University of Tennessee’s County Administrator Professional certification. She has attended numerous professional management, supervisory, and law enforcement courses throughout her career.
She is currently the Administrative Captain for the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office where she supervises recruiting, hiring, training and community services. Captain Istvanditsch enjoys spending time with her family, sports, and anything that can be done in the great outdoors.

Sgt. Dowell’s achievements include Medicolegal Death Investigations and Drug Interdiction Technician. He has completed the FBI LEEDA Supervisor Leadership Institute and received national accreditation from the International Association for Property and Evidence.
Community Services Deputy Laura Kunce began her law enforcement career in 2017.
She previously worked for Smyrna Police Department as a patrol officer. She joined Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy in 2020 and then transitioned to an SRO at Rock Springs Elementary in 2021.

Deputy Kunce joined the Community Services Unit in 2022 where she assists with community engagement. In 2022, Deputy Kunce joined the recruiting team and is actively involved in recruiting applicants to the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department.
She earned certifications in recruiting, background investigations, school resource officer, public information officer, and child passenger safety technician.

Corporal Malia Porto Xayachack began her career with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office in 2020 as a detention deputy after serving as the Captain for the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post since 2016 where she volunteered 400+ hours of community service. While working in detention, Malia was promoted as a Field Training Officer providing training and guidance to new deputies. She was then promoted to Corporal, supervising second shift deputies and managing the detention facility.
Malia has received her associate’s degree in psychology and will soon earn her bachelor’s degree in Child Development and Family Studies this year where also completed 200 internship hours with the family crimes unit in the RCSO Criminal Investigations Division. She has received certifications as a facility compliance officer, Train the Trainer Instructor, and serves as a recruiter.
Malia looks forward to digging into more opportunities that the Sheriff’s Office has to offer. She is passionate and enjoys speaking to potential applicants about how a career in the detention division can be fulfilling and the ways they can impact someone’s life.

He was hired full-time as a patrol deputy in 2016 and stayed in patrol for five years. During his time as a patrol officer, Herron earned a promotion as a field training officer where he was respons
Community Services Sgt. Gary Herron began his law enforcement career in 2015 as a reserve deputy with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.
He was hired full-time as a patrol deputy in 2016 and stayed in patrol for five years. During his time as a patrol officer, Herron earned a promotion as a field training officer where he was responsible for training and mentoring new officers. He then was selected to be part of the S.T.O.P. (Strategies and Tactics for Opioid Prevention) Team.
Herron was promoted to sergeant in the Community Service Unit in May 2021. He oversees the Senior Citizen Awareness Network (SCAN), chaplains, Public Safety Cadets, Sheriff’s Citizen Academy, Sheriff’s Citizens Academy Alumni Association and community events for the Sheriff’s Office.
He attended several Law Enforcement courses such as the Field Training Officer, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE), background investigations, Yellow DOT, Child Passenger Safety Technician, Civilian Active Shooter Response Instructor and Law Enforcement Instructor Development Course.
